Wait, there's something on the teletype...

My Packing Heat listeners know I'm endeavoring to improve my reading speed with the book 10 Days to Faster Reading. And yes, I'm well aware of how befitting it is that it's taken me about two months to get through the thing.

Anyway, I'm in the final stretch of the book, and there's a checklist of reading behaviors the book is encouraging me to go through and see if I want to focus on any of them for future self improvement. One of the items is,
"I will resist the temptation to check on incoming faxes."

Hahahahaha.

The book was only written 9 years ago. I mean...who sits around looking at their fax machine, waiting for those squally noises to come out, and that ugly gray thermal paper to come curling out of the front of it and fall on the floor. (Some of you young-uns probably don't even remember THAT. Oh, how I hated that thermal paper.)

If you're a pokey reader, however, I do recommend the book. Also take the weird racetrack analogies with a grain of salt. I just try to go to a happy place when they start talking about revving my reading engine.

Well, replace faxes with checking email, facebook and LJ and it might be useful. God knows I check those way to often. ;)

There was a separate item for checking email though. Maybe that's why I thought it was so funny!! I mean, faxes? It's not as if you won't hear 'em come in from across the building.
