Packing Heat 068: Choo Choo Choose

Decisions, Decisions
Our lives are a series of choices. How do we choose to spend our time, mental energy, and resources?

Time, Money
If we say we "can't afford" to do something, or we "don't have time" to do something, don't we really mean that it's not our priority, not our focus? Maybe it's a sort of shorthand to say you can't afford or don't have time for something. But wouldn't it be more empowering to say, "I'm not doing X because Y is my priority and I'd like to focus on Y."

Do you see how that takes you from a place of playing a victim role to being empowered to shape your own life?

As always, I also talk about word count.

Your Assignment
If you find yourself saying, "I have to..." see if you can shift that to "I choose to..." and see how it feels!

Wow, this sounds *spot on* for the way I'm feeling right now. I often dip back into PH and find topics that are apt for me - and give me a good kickstart! :)

But I singled you out as someone who doesn't make excuses and gets done what you need to do...

I live on my own and you'd say that I can choose pretty much anything I want to do, but you don't want to know the excuses I can make to myself. So much so that I decided to make writing a treat. There's a nice little coffee shop in the mall here, so what I do is go grocery shopping and as a treat I go to the coffee shop and there I can write for about half an hour afterwards. With a bit of luck that takes me to 300 words easily. What I mean to say is, even if your day job leaves you enough time to write (as it does in my case) and you don't have a family to take care of, it's quite easy to spend a whole day doing absolutely nothing if you don't set yourselfs some goals. So every time I notice myself doing all kinds of different things, I go grocery shopping now.

I really love the idea of making writing your treat.

When I'm being really weird and I notice I'm dying to do the dishes, I make that my "treat" -- pretty pathetic. "You can't wash those dishes until you write 400 words."

But...whatever it takes. I'm not proud.
