On Writing Paranormals

Yay, hooray, it's my day today at the Rainbow Reviews Blog. August is Author Extravaganza month with a post by a different guest author every day. Today I talk about how having a high level of reality in paranormal fiction makes the weird elements even weirder.

I want one of those too! Of course all the TV watching would add up to an awful lot of time in front of the set.

True, but I'd love to have seen at least a full season of Firefly and Wonderfalls

Will check this out!
Hey there, JCP.

I got a grin out of the theme for your turn at blog, since I just last week posted this in my pre-review for Camp Hell on Goodreads :

I have become completely absorbed in this PysCop series by JCP. Camp Hell, #5 in the series, begins where #4, 'Secrets', left off.

JCP has created a rich mythology that works so well because it's only slightly phased-out from the world we know in the here-and-now.

That was my witless way of trying to say what you just did - normal makes the weird weirder.

I'm going to find time later today to read up on your Rainbow post. In the meantime, I just want to say thanks for making it a no-brainer for me to get hooked on PysCops - I took advance of the offer you'd made a while back to get a free copy of book one. When I finally started reading it last week, I ran straight through the first four novels in about 3 days. I'm halfway through Camp Hell and already anxious for 2010 and PsyCop #6.

Cheers - happy writing!!

Oh, I really like the way you put it! Out of phase, yes. Have you ever tuned a guitar? It reminds me of that, how the strings kind of warble when they're "off" just slightly.

I'm pleased to know I hooked you in with the PsyCop Kool-aid. I wish there were an easier way to do a quick giveaway like that. Maybe I'll do it next year but limit it to 100 books or something. (That's where my shopping cart cries "uncle.")

Re: Will check this out!
Well, however you managed it last time, with the gifting?? It worked for me. :)

Yes,I get exactly what you mean by your guitar comment. Like a radio station just out of tune. Back when I was much younger, the more outrageous the setting for a SF/fantasy/paranormal novel, the better I liked it. Now I've come to prefer stories that are set in an AU just a slip away from our reality. Maybe I've just gotten lazy in the imagination department, lol.

Whatevers ... you're hitting all the right notes with PysCops. I've about 70 pages to go in Camp Hell, and I have to say I think it's the best yet. I'm dragging it out as long as I can ... ;)
