Look, Ma, No Swears!

I wonder how many displays I'll be expected to make out of nothing over the years. At some point I will run out of ideas. The display I made out of cake frosting buckets I begged from the local grocery store was a big hit.

This one was even more minimal. I needed to promote the writing group, which has dwindled a bit. And I needed to do it with nothing. So I covered a table in brown paper, put out a bowl of chalk, and encouraged people to write their one-word autobiographies on it.

Shockingly, four days later, and no swears. I thought for sure wiseass kids (or "adults") would be putting naughty words down -- and I did the display anyway, because it's so hard to make anyone look at anything these days, and better still if you can make them interact.

This was the autobiography table on day 2. Now you can't get a word in edgewise, literally. Did everyone "get it?" No, there are plenty of people who wrote their own names, or "Hi!" or "Peace Out!" or whatever. But some people got it. And no swears. Shocking.

Someone did write "smelly." I'm glad that's not MY one-word bio.

That's a great idea. I'm glad people behaved and didn't write any swear words.
I keep meaning to check out my library's writing group - but I'm afraid. If anyone is writing about mimes... I'll fall right out of my chair laughing.

It's not easy to find a writing group. When the balance isn't right, the group will suck out your creativity rather than inspiring it. (That's when learning to say "no" is priceless.)

I don't run this group. I just make the signs -- and I like it that way. ;-)

Fantastic idea! Wish I had an inspiring writing group around me. I may just set my own up on a white board on my wall *lol*.

Have a good weekend.

Try that white board, it might work. I have a chalkboard wall that seems to shift my thinking when I write on it.

You have a good weekend, too! I have to work. Boo.

Re: Awesome!
I'm fine. I'm just having computer problems. Yes, still. :( It's not always fun to be a poor student. :P

It was interesting to see which parts of speech the people who took it seriously used. My guy used a gerund. (Which, if you knew him, is somehow fitting.)

I was the egoist who chose "fabulous," but only in the spirit of positive thinking :D

Although I guess it's possible he meant it as an adjective *snerk.*

Poor guy isn't here to defend himself tonight, I shouldn't tease :D
