Two days ago, All Romance eBooks announced that it was closing its doors Midnight December 31 (no time zone was given). If you purchased books there and have not backed them up, you'll want to do that ASAP.

Right now, their site is overwhelmed by readers scrambling to back up their libraries on such a short notice. My books are no longer for sale on the site, but I have not removed my books from the ARe system so readers who have previously purchased can get their backup copies. HOWEVER, this morning a reader informed me the site is so congested she couldn't download anyway.

If you can't retrieve backups of any books of mine you purchased through ARe, I will gladly replace them. Send proof of purchase to sales [at] jcpbooks.com and let me know which file type, and I'll respond within 24 hours.

I've managed to download everything I've bought there since 2008, but it did take a long time with several reboots. I don't know why I feel the need to do this (download everything) when I already have copies and backups.

It was the same when Fictionwise shut down, but at least they had a bulk download option - and they gave more than a couple of days notice (I think they even left the site up for a while after they stopped trading to allow people to access their purchases).

I suppose that it is different when you are owned by a large corporation rather than being independent. As ARe have rushed the closure I take it that not trading or having a website in 2017 is an important factor for them - I'm not that knowledgeable on US tax laws/financial stuff to make an informed guess as to what bill/penalty they are trying to avoid. Or maybe it is just too painful to carry on and wind it up more slowly.
