Cover Art: the (Re)Making of Secrets

Recently I’ve begun revamping the PsyCop series ebooks to give the covers a more cohesive look, and to clean up some of the older ebooks to make sure they work well across various devices. The Secrets ebook was showing its age. It came out in 2007 before many devices in use today even existed, and its cover art pre-dated the use of the Vic model, so I was eager to freshen it up.

The scene I chose to showcase for the new cover art was the moment where Vic decides he’s going to step outside of his comfort zone to help the victim. He’ll be sorry later, but right now he’s working himself up to gagging down a Jack and Coke. Here’s an insider look at the making of the can.

I love the new cover, Jordan. I can almost see Vic swaying as he stands looking at the Coke can like it's the Coke's fault he feels like he does. Great job! And thanks for the insight into all the hard work you do on all your covers :)

Poor Vic. He never expects things to go easily or well, either. I think he's a pretty good sport about it, all things considered :D

Are you going to redo the print versions too?

No, because of the economics of print on demand, I'd have to pay file setup fees that make it cost prohibitive to make changes. Also print sales make up a very small percentage of my overall sales, so it's a no-win to redo print.

I take you're not using Createspace then. For all their fault, it's at least easy and free to make a change.

Right, I don't go through CreateSpace, there are other factors at play there that don't work with my business model.
