As many of you know, I recently moved into a new apartment. And as many of you know, it's currently white on white a la Victor Bayne, and I suck at decorating. (Well, most of you don't know that, but I'm owning up to it right now.) One thing that's bugging me are the hooks set into the ceilings for plants to hang off. I probably won't get plants...in my experience, they crap leaves all over the room, the cats will try to eat them, and then I forget to water them, or I over-water them, or aphids come to live on them, and they die.

I was thinking about what I could hang off the hooks to make them look purposeful. I ordered a spherical Japanese lantern, and the mail carrier crammed it into my mailbox in such a way that I ended up with an ugly squashed potato of a thing. And then I started looking into some decorations I could make myself, maybe from vellum, since I used to be a crafty sort. I found a star. It looked interesting. I decided to practice with some green cardstock I had sitting around...

So...not only am I A LOT WORSE at crafts than I used to be...but evidently I only cut out six squares when I needed eight, so I can't even count.

And so the hooks remain empty.

It's almost Halloween--maybe you should hang pumpkins. :P

I'm worse at holiday decorating than I am at decorating-decorating.

Whatever you hang, eventually it'll be covered in dust.

I bought a fluffy duster thing so at least at the moment it's novel and I'm using it!

LOL, these remind me of the "Nailed it" meme pictures, of the way things turn out in the real world rather than the way they look on Pinterest. :D

What about some kind of stained glass or crystal things, because they'll throw pretty colours on your white walls when the light catches them.

I suppose the hooks will be at least be handy for Christmas decorations. And hanging up laundry to dry... :D

Oh and I agree, screw plants. There's a place for plants - it's called outdoors.

I seem to have fallen in love with "air plants" while I was looking for something glass or metal to hang off the damn hooks. *sigh*

(They still need to be soaked periodically...but they're so darn cute)

I like sparkly windchimes on my ceiling hooks, especially if they're in a place they are NOT going to tinkle all the time.

There's not going to be much air movement in the winter with the window shut. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for something interesting.

You can get some really beautiful, non-Xmas specific glass baubles. They'd look like an art installation.

In the past when I've hung stuff like that, it looked small and pathetic. And the ceiling here is even higher. I need something bigger, which was why I tried the ill-fated paper lantern.

HAHAHA OMG your crafting was brilliance. XD

The thought of ceiling hooks turned me sooooo green with envy. I came up with a dozen ideas for those without half trying. I WANT CEILING HOOKS NOW.

Seriously, I'd go so far as to string wires and build a huge blanket fort. XD

I think the problem with the hooks is that they aren't in a spot where I placed them. So I might think of something to hang there but it would look weird in that particular place.

Funny, I've been living with unwanted ceiling hooks for years. In my trailer I just unscrewed them, mostly, and left a little hole. But these look a lot more hefty.

The blanket fort IS intriguing, though.

I put up a few of those cheesy sayings that I painted on discarded pieces of wood. You know the kind. I have one above my coffee machine that says:

"I haven't had my coffee yet, don't make me kill you."

You could try that? :D

That would be cute on a wall. I can't imagine them dangling from the ceiling with much success. Maybe a better decorator could pull it off :-)
