A Passage from Secrets

I'm giving Secrets a quick proofread as I prepare the files for their face-lift.This passage made me smile. It's fun to see how much Vic has learned about himself and his abilities between that book and Spook Squad.
“You know what the white balloon is?”
Lisa thought for a second. “You mean that trick they teach Psych kids?”
Not only kids. Sheesh. “Yeah. That one.”
“What about it?”
“I did it. I stopped him for a second. But then he waved it away and kept going.”
Lisa pulled up at a red light and drummed her fingers on the steering wheel. “How much energy did you put into maintaining it?”
“They don’t keep going? That’s real helpful.”
Lisa raised her eyebrows. “I thought you were trained.”
“Yeah, back in the old days when you had to walk to Psych-school barefoot, in the snow, uphill both ways.” And when the other students sometimes disappeared, because they’d ended up on the wrong side of an experimental treatment.

It's kind of strange to start in the middle with Secrets for me. I think I read them all a year ago to put together Spook Squad, but somehow it really doesn't seem like it right now. Lots of stuff feels new to me. Maybe I just hallucinated that I reread the series that recently.

However, I can never read just one...the characters are just irresistible.

Psycop series. They're just like potato chips, you can never eat just one and equally irresistable... :)

Potato chips should be measured in bags, not individual chips.

Exactly! And so should Psycop be taken as an entire series and not just one book at a time :)

Great idea :D

I always have a difficult time going back to something much older for revision/expansion because I know where the character is going now where I might not have when I first wrote the words down. That difference, that back-knowledge, cam make journeying to the past filled with potential catastrophe.

I think my favorite Lisa moment was when she and Vic ate like 3 pounds of French fries and she made him swear never to tell anyone. Adorable.

I love it that you remember that! I often wonder if people notice these details. I really like Vic's and Lisa's relationship.

Vic is such a beautiful case of arrested development, it's wonder filled to see him blossom. I've also just randomly started rereads of PsyCop, in the middle of the series, in the middle of a book. SINCE IT'S MY FAVORITE SERIES!!! (Had to spaz out a bit there. Keeps me going.)

Ha, just random? I love it.

I like stumbling upon parts I don't remember writing. That's fun.

I quite often dip into the earlier ones to reread my favourite bits or just random bits. :D But I think I could definitely do with a full reread of the whole series.

Wow, that's a high compliment, thank you!!

Ooh, now I wanna reread everything :)

Might keep me busy until the ARe release, I tried bying it from your site, but the security behind our creditcards didn't like it apparently, nothing happened (at least they didn't block my card this time)
