Say it isn't so, Monopoly!

Okay, this is old news and voting is closed but I just ran across it now. Monopoly let the public VOTE OUT AND REPLACE one of its game pieces. Aaagh! Up for the cutting room floor were the car, thimble, boot, scottie, ship, hat, iron, and wheelbarrow. I would have totally kicked out the wheelbarrow. What about you?

*hopefully you can see the FB page without login

I voted to get rid of the thimble, because you can buy that game piece at any fabric store.

Glad the cat won; sad to see the iron go.

With board games, though, we usually play with whatever we want to use as our pieces (fantasy war gaming miniatures, plastic gumball machine people, whatever amuses us at the moment).

I have no one to play board games with. But maybe soon. I'm moving to the city and I know of a board game group I can join.

Re: Confession
It is a fairly dry game, isn't it? I'm trying to think if I feel the same about any other games. Sometimes Clue is tedious.

Oh wow /o\ I would have totally kicked the wheelbarrow or maybe the hat b/c they never sat right on the board.

We play a lot of Star Wars or Navy Monopoly and I always thought Monopoly was long and boring until I played it with my kid - and DUDE he is a SHARK. Buys up all the property in a strip and then builds on it - makes it hard to beat him that's for sure, makes a game I always thought was boring into something really exciting and competitive. Because I have to strategize from the very beginning.

Ha ha, I love it that your kid's got the killer instinct!! My strategy is buying up all the slums and building on them. Ideally the whole lower side of the board if I can.

He does, and it's our own fault because we taught him to be like that. We never let him win when he was little & we still don't, every time he wins it's because he played well and earned it.

LOLLL that is EXACTLY his strategy. The last time I lost to him he had owned everything from Go to Jail and had hotels on all of them/o\

I'd have kicked out the iron. And since there's a Scotty dog, there needs to be a cat.

ETA: HA! I wrote the above before I even looked at the site. I must be psychic. *g*

HAHA, that's just eerie. You're in tune with the universe today. If I had a second choice among the new pieces, it would've been the ring. It was an interesting shape.

*Shrugs* we uses different coloured cars, I don't care ;)

Wow, they're slightly different from ours, but we have the car / iron / dog / top hat / ship and boot. I think the new sets have them in plastic :(. I love Monopoly but it does take ages to set up and play, and the Sons don't have the patience. Clue (is that our Cluedo?) is better but that's because I'm a sad old bag who pays attention and always wins, while the others just hop about through the underground passages.

My fave new game is Jungle Speed *hehe*. With alcohol ^___~

It looks like Clue/Cluedo is the same. I wonder how long that game's been around.

My family probably wouldn't have liked Jungle Speed much, what with all the screaming :D
