Black Friday is a crock
- Nov. 23rd, 2012 at 2:41 PM
Since it's disgusting me inordinately this year, and since a family member assures me I'm losing out on all kinds of business by not having a sale at my online store, I've opted to post a statement on my main page instead.

I just don't get the frenzy and you HEAR about all these great deals, but I've never actually known anyone who got one. It's like an urban legend. Or else the things that are on sale are not the things I want. Sure there's a $200 TV, some no-name brand from who knows where.
It seems like the best thing to do, if you need a new TV, is research, find the one you want and then watch for sales or deals. Not just take some off brand that you need to get trampled for.
And ITA about Black Friday. I've spent all day lounging around the house and doing a whole lot of NOT shopping. Aside from buying the CM bundle, that is. XD
Funny enough, a new bar just opened here called Wild Bills. I think it's some sort of country sports bar fusion thing though. Not a place I'd imagine a vampire to hang out. Unless Bill is a secret Vikings fan. :P
I wanted to do a no-buy day and then my dashboard started beeping at me as I was approaching a gas station, so I caved in and bought gas.
I'm trying to imagine Wild Bill's feelings on sports...I don't think he HATES sports like so many of my nellier characters do. But I think he probably enjoys watching other people get all riled up about sports and smirking about their distress.
Unfortunately, Amazon recommended me a whole lot of terrible books at first. I won't say which publisher but you can probably guess who. Shallow character development and mostly no plot, just lots of sex. I read a whole lot of terrible books at first. I started googling and saw certain names recommended over and over [yours was one of them] and I am working my way through my list of recommended people. I think a lot of other people are too. I know I'm going to recommend you to my friends. ^__^
Amazon is shit for recommendations but I think those that are interested will find the books that they are interested in. Eventually. I'm so glad I found your works. You are a crazy good writer and are really inspiring as well. I used to write a lot, not for publication but just stories for my friends. It makes me want to write more and more and maybe even whip something into [maybe] publication shape. Eeeep, that's scary. >__>'
My guess is that once the genre of MM matures, you'll see a separation of which are Romance Genre based, and which are novels of other genres but with gay protagonists and a romantic subplot. (Mysteries, horror, thrillers, etc.) That'll make it easier for the readers who prefer one over the other to find the writers they click with.
Weirdly enough, as a publisher I find Amazon better for recommendations than other distributors, who force you to pay for placement, or who favor big publishers over indies, or who have no system in place at all. I think if you go through and "like" a few books by authors you prefer, your recs might get better. Or maybe that's just an urban legend...
Channeling Morpheus is more of a sex romp than my other work. It was originally written for a publisher with a sex quota so I had to sneak the plot in among all the naked thrusting.
I'm so glad you persevered instead of giving up the whole genre as crap!
Writing for your friends is the best way to start, IMO, because you get feedback and motivation from them instead of writing in a vacuum.
See, I don't mind sex romps if they are well done and it makes sense. But there are so many books where the main character is like "Time to check the mail. Guess we better fuck!" I have heard that certain publishers have sort of sex quotas. I think that's silly, specially if it's just sex for the sake of it. I skim those parts more and more these days if doesn't make sense.
I'm halfway through CM and I'm loving it so much. You are one talented writer, lady! ^__^ I'm looking forward to reading the PsyCop series next. One good thing about stumbling onto this genre late is that once I find an author I enjoy, they usually have a large back catalog of work for me to read. \o/
