Makes me wonder what instinctive behavior it's a warpage of.

He's such a character! Even after all these years I spot him among the socks and go, "Aw!"

How could you not? :-)

I'm the same way with my kitty (see icon). When she's outside for her morning constitutional (*g*) and has to go potty, she stands up against the window with her claws in the screen and miaows silently to come in. (Picture Rick Moranis in Ghostbusters at the restaurant window when he is being chased by one of Zool's creatures.) When I let her in, she races to the litterbox to do her business. Afterward, she's all, "okay, I'm ready to go back out in the back yard and play." She has no idea that one can potty outside, apart from dogs doing it, the uncouth creatures.

It still slays me.

Really looking forward to your next Mnevermind book--I'm a big fan of your work, but I think that now ranks as my second favorite of your universes (the Psycop series is my first). And can I also say how much I enjoyed, in both Mnevermind and The Starving Years, the inclusion of a sort of annoying straight jock, who in the end turns out to have redeeming qualities. Each character was quite uniquely delineated, and in the end I loved each of them. You are an amazing character creator. I also loved the fact that one of the major characters was on the autism/Aspberger scale.

Oh, I love a good silent meow, so darn cute!

Thank you so much for the many, many kind words. Larry from Mnevermind is more well-loved than I thought he'd be, given how unfiltered he is. He's based on a buddy from high school so my love of my pal must be coming through on him. Or maybe that story would be too much of a downer without an optimistic guy in it.

I just read yet another awesome book on Asberger's. There's so much to think about in writing any character, let alone one with an alternate brain.

Thank you so much for the link! I used to work with children on the autistic/Aspberger's scale, but that was in the early '80s--we know so much more now, thanks to the work of many people within the spectrum writing about their experiences. I'm constantly looking for new information, just out of personal curiosity, so I'm off to get this book!

Have you read this one, by Daniel Tammett: Born On A Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant? It's fascinating.

Larry was truly endearing--I think you have an extraordinary talent for writing great characters, but it does help, doesn't it, when it comes from our own experiences. :-) But some people are never quite able to translate their experiences into instantly relatable characters. You're a master at it.

Aww... I have to leave a warm pair of freshly dried jeans out for the kitties after I do laundry...

Aw! Mine never lie on anything I set out for them, only things I'm trying to use. Especially books.

I love his expression! Add to that his little paw with the claws showing and it looks like he's saying, "Leave me alone NOW or DIE!!!" *falls over from the cute*

Poor guy doesn't have claws there thanks to a previous owner - it must be furs you see! I sometimes wonder what he would have been like with claws.

Aw, that's awful! Poor guy. It must be the way the light's catching on his fur that makes it look like he still has claws. And why do people think it's a good idea to alter a pet by mutilating them I'll never understand :(

I suppose some people don't realize declawing is cruel. It's the vet's job to educate them, I think. Then again this one was not an exemplary cat owner. She tried to have Puff put to sleep when she found out her grandson was allergic. At least the vet said no to that. (Then a few years later she got another cat and declawed it, and said the allergies were fine because this new cat had shorter hair (!!!)

Then my head exploded.

He's definitely got a look that suggests you'd better not try to put them away until he's done with snuggling.

I don't even see the "expression" genetics has given his face anymore, just sweetness :D

So cute! My Lukas insists on sleeping in my bed just as I'm about to change the sheets. Every time. He never sleeps in my bed otherwise. It's as if he knows: Mommy is gonna change the sheets today; better snuggle in.

I'm going to the animal shelter on Sunday to look for another cat. Poor Lukas has to do the Bushy Tail Run all by himself. Well, not anymore. After spending a boring month indoors while I was on vacation, he is finally getting a playmate. Now all I have to figure out is how to make them like each other. What if they hate each other on sight? *help*

And a little PS: Reading Turbulence. My head is about to split open.......how do you come up with it? Just...WOW!

Oh, I'm so excited for you and Lukas both. No one should have to do the crazy-head run alone. I recommend the super slow introduction here:
http://www.fourpaws.org/pages/adopting_pages/introducing_cats.html

When I got Frankie I gave him his own room, and good thing, since he turned out to have a tapeworm and a respiratory infection. Although I think Puffy caught the respiratory thing from him.

Turbulence is turning out to be a lot more difficult to write than I'd anticipated.

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated! I think the cats in the shelter are supposed to be healthy, they neuter them and give them their shots and then they micro ship them. They all live together in a large barn, so they're used to interacting with other cats. Hopefully we find one compatible to Lukas.

As for Turbulence: It is rather convoluted isn't it? You sure make my brain ache! It's only fitting that you should struggle when I have to work my poor brain so hard while reading it! *LOL* No, seriously? I hope this doesn't mean that you're giving up?

I'm loving the Turbulence story, I just thought it would be a little side project and instead I'm finding it takes maybe 3-4 times longer to write than I'd thought, so I've had to put other things on hold while I work on it. I guess I'm just a mono-tasker.

I wholeheartedly agree! I'll stop and look at a picture of a cat anytime!
