We are looking at converting the smallest bedroom into an office for me. Currently, it's called the "drum room." My SO is in a band now, and he can leave most of his drums wherever it is he practices. I would also guess that about 18 cubic feet are taken up by SIMPSONS figures. They are going in boxes. Goodbye. (I really have no use for giant collections of action figures. Big money-drain, and we have never had that kind of money to throw away.)

I can, however, see one or two cool action figures--like my 12" Ares doll. Or my Sleepy Hollow horseman. Just for instance. But not eight million Simpsons. Anyway, the toys aren't mine, and I need the office to be a me-space.

For sure, I want to paint the ceiling because it's got some water stain issues. I figure if I've got the molding taped off, I might as well paint the walls, because that will make the space feel really different. I really want a new carpet, but it's such a pain. The room is 9x11. It's not so much a money issue there since it's so small that I think carpet will be affordable, but the fact that I'd need to drive somewhere, pick something out and have it installed, and that would set the office back a few weeks. There's a carpet place 20 miles east of me and 20 miles west, I guess it's just a matter of picking one.

I've been waiting for the office for 7 years though. Maybe a couple more weeks doesn't matter. The existing carpet is pretty bad.

I think I really need to break it down into one step at a time since I'm feeling overwhelmed. Maybe grab some painters' tape on my way home from work tomorrow, and see how long I can leave it on before I actually have to paint. I think there's some adhesive issue where you can't leave it on for weeks and weeks. Maybe that's a good thing, in a way.

(It will be amazing to not be working in the corner of the bedroom.)

Cheaper, easier...maybe just a large area rug? A 7'x5' rug at Ikea would run around $200.

I thought about that, too, but the old nasty existing wall-to-wall carpet would still be under there. Or I'd have to tear it up and put tiles in or something. (Sadly, I bought tiles to do that for the bedroom a year and a half ago and there they are, just sitting there, 'cos I have a mental block about tearing up the carpet)

If you're able to get the room *empty* then painting all over and putting down carpet (or maybe carpet tiles?) ought to be a doable project, and hurray for office!

Carpet Tiles! You rock!

I hadn't thought of that. I just looked and found a place I can order for under $1/ft, so if I find some really cheap ones, my project might come in at less that $100 and also be installable by someone who's home-improvement-impaired like me.
