Lightning!

I've had an interesting morning. Apparently the universe heard me talking to people about writing distractions and decided it would help me get some work done if it knocked out my internet connection with a bolt of lightning! The first couple hours I just figured I'd let things take their course, because the last time the Internet went out, it was out for my whole village because a transformer got hit. So I wrote 1000 words and worked on my newsletter awhile, and then around 10 I decided I'd really like to be able to plan my day, so I called the internet provider to see what was what.

Turned out it was not my whole village without internet. Just me.

I ran my modem over there and decided to bum around nearby since they said it would only take about an hour. I went shopping. Bought another bathing suit. Ran into my occasional assistant who was walking down the sidewalk reading a big book (you gotta love him) so we chatted for a while, then I ate at Subway, then I finally decided to stop back by and see if my modem was done yet.

They weren't sure what happened, but they updated the software and that seemed to do the trick, because I'm on now. Yay! I feel like my morning was shot. But I got to see my pal, I guess it's not a total loss.

ETA: holy hell, then my wireless wasn't working. Fred at the phone co. finally helped me get it all sorted out. Basically the old way I had my modem and router and computer hooked together was no longer kosher and I needed to re-do it all. Thank you Fred, you were awesome today!

Sounds like something that might happen to Vic....

I'm not exactly afraid of thunder and lightning and I love the rain it usually brings, but watch me pull the plug on all the electric equipment; faster than lightning I tell you! Once (my TV while I was watching it )is enough.

Poor Vic wouldn't know the modem from the router. He'd leave it until Jacob got home. :D

I had lightning take out my modem before. And at the moment my internet goes out every minute. I am looking for a new provider. Not productive for work at all.

I was impressed with my provider. I remember big city providers being a lot snottier and not caring whether you were fixed the same day or not.

I'm switching back to Time Warner, the one I have now is worthless. I literally lose my connection every 5-10 minutes. And when I finally reach customer service they are useless. They keep saying they 'are working on the problem'. For three days??? I could fix it faster ;o)

I'm pretty sure I know the difference between a modem and a router, but I don't know the right order to hook things up at all. I'm like Vic waiting for Jacob, except that I wait for my dad or my brother to come look at the computer.

I'm glad you got it all working, though.

I imagine if I couldn't figure it out with the guy on the phone they would have had to send a tech.
