Character vs. you

I've noticed in other authors' blogs that oftentimes something that happens to their characters happens to them in RL. I've had this happen to me a couple of times. When I introduced Crash in Criss Cross, I picked up smoking again after not having been plagued by the urge for 10 years. (Don't worry, I quit again when I realized I was sitting at my day job fantasizing about cigarettes when I needed those brain cells for work.)

A weirder instance was a time that I was working on a story in which my character developed a horrible ear infection, and due to ignorance and neglect, it rendered him deaf in that ear. I knew it was uncommon for an adult to get an ear infection, but I figured it was the dead of winter in Chicago, he was out riding motorcycles, and who's to say he never had ear infections as a kid.

I then got my very first ear infection. In my late 30's.

It seems that the logical thing to do would be to write a story about someone who finds money in all kinds of bizarre places. Every time she opens a cupboard, drawer or door, money falls out. And then hot guys drop by and worship her. But they're never too clingy and they're fascinating conversationalists. And she makes this rich chocolate cake that has negative calories. Or maybe one of the hot men does that for her.

I could go on all day here....

If you find a way to make that happen for people who aren't you, could you give me a call? That would be great ;b

Kidding aside, you have no idea how much I'm looking forward to vol 4 of Jake and Vic. I have reread the previous three books so many times I can probably recite whole passages by heart. I really want to see them in their new home. Like, really, really, really. Reeeeeeaaaaally.

Ok, before I get really pushy or whiney, I'm going to shut up.

Good luck with the negative calory cake ;))

You don't know how excited it makes me to know that you're looking forward to the new place. It's really the focus of book 4.

I finished the rough draft but I think I'm going to expand the whole story a lot. (I know, I was talking about forcing it into the same format and wordcount as the other three, but it just ain't gonna happen!)

Well, I for one would certainly be v.v.v. happy if the book was longer than the previous ones, so I really hope your muses (and editor) stay with you ;)
