Shaking Hands and Kissing Babies

Vote for Body & Soul: a PsyCop novel in the Predators & Editors 2007 poll! Among the Living finished in the top 10 last year; I'd be tickled if Body & Soul placed, too!

I'm getting some decent wordcount on PsyCop 4. In fact, I've already picked the scene to delete if I go over 44k, which is kinda freeing.

Oh, is it really that you cannot write more than 50,000 words? I find that a pity. I'm so in love with Vic and Jacob that there could never be too much of them ;)

Is there a chance that you're releasing that deleted scene somewhere else?

Good luck with vol.4! :D

Hi Meagan!

Aw, that's so sweet! Thanks!

Before I wrote Body & Soul I talked with my editor about story length, and for her particular line, 44K is the max. I could have opted to write a novel-length story rather than novella and work with a different set of people, but the consistency of having the same editor (who's just wonderful to work with) appealed to me. So my thought was that I'd just keep putting the story out in 40-thousandish word novellas rather than 80-90 thousand word novels.

I don't think that'll mean that there's less story, but instead of taking several subplots and weaving them together, I maybe foreshadow something in one book but don't deal with the results of the foreshadowing until a couple of books down the line.

If there's nowhere for me to put that deleted scene, I'll stick it in the PsyCop blog. Don't worry, it wasn't anything juicy. It was a Vic/Zigler scene. I'm thinking about it and I don't think it really jibes with the story arc for book 4. I'll need to see if I need the space or not when the time comes, or whether some incident that crops up toward the end makes it seem necessary to keep :D

This book's been a little weird in that I knew how it would end but the "getting there" part is nothing like I've expected it to be. I always enjoy it if I can keep on surprising myself while I write.

Aww, I'm very glad to hear it :) I'm v.v.v. greedy when it comes to fictional characters lol

Thank you for you detailed reply, I appreciate it. Hopefully you'll be surprising yourself a lot during writing :D *off to check out the PsyCop blog*
