Cat rule #32: Never lay vertically when you can take up more room horizontally.

He's formed a ball now but he's still quite large. Also he'll likely lay against me, and he's hot.

They are massive little heaters, aren't they? I get 3 on me or next to me when I lounge on the couch (and have to crank up the air conditioning) and usually have a couple that sleep at my head in bed.

Oh, thankfully mine aren't head-sleepers. More like lap-sleepers and crook-of-knee sleepers. Which is plenty hot.

lol I'll have to take a picture of Mr. Big Paws relaxing on my bed. He gets annoyed when I shove him over to the other side.

Lying down on them is one way to get them to move.

Amazing, isn't it, how such a small creature can even move a human being to acquire more bed space. My kitty weighs all of 7 pounds, yet is a master at this technique.

My 8.5 pound kitty is very good at acquiring bed space as well. Mostly he's so frail I don't want to roll over on him.

They turn our sympathy to their advantage.

A familiar site in my house, mine also likes to claim the whole kitchen table.

Luckily I have an appealing windowsill to distract them.

Dogs have this abillity too, boyfriends two furballs are the size of a big cat, they've still managed to push both of us out of the bed...

I think dogs are even worse. One minute you're cohabiting peacefully and the next minute they stiff-leg you right over the edge.

Awww!

I saw a great picture yesterday of a cat on a giant dog bed asleep in the middle, while a Great Dane lay on the floor starting longingly at his dog bed...

Haha! Maybe finding the center is one of the more little-known feline abilities.

How many do you have?

I have three. I was meaning to have two but the third decided to show up barefoot and pregnant on my rooftop so after a nearly seven hundred dollar vet bill to take care of a tubal pregnancy, she came home with me instead of heading to a rescue group.

Neko, the 5 lb chinchilla, bitching about her brother Tam taking up the whole bed.

Yoshi, the rooftop cat, inspecting my luggage as I pack.

How cuuuuute! Every one of them looks like a real character.

Character is probably the nicest name I've ever used to describe them. Tam's pretty mellow. He's our sweet Irish charmer. The girls are demons.

I love the orange tipped siamese markings on yours. Apricot? We had a lilac point growing up. He was a trip. Hated my sister. Knocked her over while she was trying to learn to walk. Great cat. :D

He's half-tabby so he has some striping going on also in his forehead and tail. He's called a flame point mix in his paperwork. Big ol' Frank.

He's adorable. I love his colouring. He looks like he's very assured of his place on that bed :grins:

Thank you! I wish he was more cuddly. He sort of wants to be cuddled, then he sort of acts like maybe he's annoyed enough to bite...if it were easier and he wasn't so fat and he moved a little faster.

sometimes the ones you want to cuddle the most are the most resistent :D

Ah, very advanced technique there. Not merely horizontal, but 45 degrees into the diagonal to maximise the amount of space made unusable. Big score of 9.5 at least! :D
