Tap tap, sing sing

My neighbors are having a shed put up a few yards away from my office, and the workmen are listening to country music. I'm glad I have an opposite end of the house to work in while this is happening. (I don't begrudge them their shed, of course...I'm just a stickler for quiet.)

The last place I lived in Chicago was a 20x20 foot coachhouse that was so small that anything you heard in one part of the house, you heard everywhere. Sometimes I vaguely miss the simplicity of needing to be that minimal, but right now I'm glad to put some space between me and the project.

(I do hear hammering still...I think it's time for some music. If it weren't for the cats I could close my door...but those of you with cats know how flabbergasted they get by a closed door that's usually open.)

All Hell breaks loose when I close a door. Though I think they are all pretty tired today, they spent the night doing God knows what in the attic, kept me up all night.

I just remembered the plot bunny from your last neighbor story... serial killers with skeletons in the basement or shed ;o)

Ha ha, it is them. Only I thought we decided they were making a life-sized chess set.

I like them a lot. They plow my driveway and their grandkids hardly ever visit :D

I don't usually here my neighbors. Even though we are in townhouses and I share a wall with two, it's usually quite quiet. Only my one neighbor decides every couple of months to play video games (I think) with the base cranked up to 110. But it's rare.

When my daughter decides to go into her room and shut the door, it means Max will stand there try and dig his way through. She lets him in, then 15 min. later he decides he needs out, and so on and so on.

Didn't they get a new TV or sound system for Christmas that was suddenly loud?

My ex inlaws shared a wall with a neighbor who was always practicing guitar. In 14 years that guy never got any better. He must have really enjoyed playing to stick to it like that, ha ha!

I live on a main road, so it's never quiet. But I like that.

Our neighbour is a young aspiring muso (he looks a bit like Bert McCracken of The Used, but totally won't talk to me. He and my partner have bonded over music, but he barely acknowledges me unless he absolutely has to) (What? No, of course it doesn't bother me. Much...) (Stop that! I'm old enough to be his mother)
He plays bass guitar, and often has the rest of the band over to practice. They're good and I like the music style, even though I don't know what songs they're covering. But... this is the suburbs and it can get a bit tiresome every night. At least they usually stop at a reasonable hour (830 - 9ish).

I would love to get you here, where you'd hear the crickets, coyotes....

It'd be too quiet for me. I once spent the weekend on a sheep station out the back of beyond and it was so quiet I couldn't sleep.

It's not quiet, we just have different noises. Crickets, peepers, coyotes, train, ships and in the winter, if it's cold, the ice.

I need trucks, cars, ambulances with sirens a-blaring. Sounds of the city, not the countryside.

I had more than my fill with mariachi music last summer, under similar circumstances. Yeah, I live on the west coast. Cultural differences.

Yes, the really bouncy mariachi music drove me nuts when I lived in Chicago!
