Buggy

There's a leaf-footed pine seed bug walking very slowly across my kitchen counter. I assume he was hibernating somewhere and he woke up because temperatures shot up into the forties today. He's missing a leg.

Ugh. Aren't you in the midwest (Wisconsin?)?

I hope it's not actually a stinkbug. It looks sorta similar.

These guys are invasive, they showed up on this (east) coast a couple years ago and are now swarming the place, destroying crops. Ugh. I looked at maps, and there've been only spotty sitings over there, but their range grows every year. :(

I like looking at bugs. Sorry, everytime you post a bug, I'm like, "OOH! Lemme see!" ^^

Yes, Wisconsin. I just edited in a couple of pictures (under a cut for all those folks too delicate to look at a picture of a bug!) of it hanging out on the fingertip of a dishwashing glove. I think it's more slender than the stinkbug.

I ignored it and now it's gone...good. I didn't have to figure out where to put it. It's not like I wanted to throw it out into the snow. It was fascinating how it walked one leg at a time.

It's pretty neat-looking, I think. I love the shape of the back legs.

That must be why they show up at MY house. That, and the shoddy construction.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww! Kind of a handsome bug, once you get over the shock.

I was a little startled at first but I thought he was more interesting than scary.

And you dislike our spiders? That's just a weird looking item.

Your spiders are more like horseshoe crabs!

I'm glad you didn't kill the little bug, he's kinda cute....spiders however (yuck!)
We get lady bugs in our house during the winter, I set them on a windowsill until spring :)

When I was seeing a lot of cellar spiders I decided to look them up to see if I should be worried about them, and it turned out they were just so sad and harmless. They build these jumbly wrecks of webs, and when they feel threatened, their defense is to vibrate. Talk about a lame superpower.

The ladybugs around here bite. I think they're different from the ones I knew in New York. They're also disturbingly numerous.
